BELLYDANCE
WITH ADAM BASMA AND FAHTIEM, CD
Fahtiem is an award-winning choreographer, master instructor, and international performer, highly renowned in the dance world for her musical style and elegance. Featured in several films, TV shows, and concerts, she has received much acclaim for her captivating stage presence, as well as her unique teaching ability. Her philosophy: "There are no magic steps that will make you a great dancer; there is only the magic you put in each and every step," is pervasive in her teaching style.
This inspiring collection of Middle Eastern music is brought to you by award winning performer and choreographer, Adam Basma. Mr. Basma has committed many years to updating and reenergizing the traditional music of the Middle East for use by his own dance company in Los Angeles. By interpreting the classical and folkloric melodics of the region for the modern listener, he has been able to elicit a more emotional response from a wider audience. Now, with the talents of the most gifted musicians, singers and engineers, he has produced this popular collection of songs and rhythms which he hopes will inspire all dancers and music lovers of today.
REVIEW: Artistic Director Adam Basma pooled talents
with America's First Lady of the Belly Dance to create the new hit CD "Belly
Dance With Adam and Fahtiem." The two leaders in Middle Eastern dancing
relied on decades of professional experience to choose the most beautiful, exciting
music for Belly Dance accompaniment. A fully orchestrated dramatic opening indicates
that something important is about to begin. A violin peaks in a lofty crescendo
and onto a theatrical tone of suspense. Hyper dumbecs are heard above heavy
bass frame drums rolling into the 5 part belly dance routine. Suddenly the percussion
picks up a quick even tempo specifically composed for the dancer's entrance.
The upbeat tune "Mashaal" introduces the dancer for the opening number.
As the routine progresses the pace continually changes to give opportunities
for veil, implement balancing, floor dancing and drum solo segments. Another
spectacular professional belly dancer's routine "Mahrajan" is included
on this CD. Both routines are suited to playing cymbals. Tinkling kanouns and
tastefully whining mizmars provide opportunities for slow motion dancing. Brain
frying drum solos elevate the sensational aspect of the performance. Several
unique folk songs particular to Egypt, Syria, Tunisia and Jordan display the
virtuosity of the incredibly talented musicians. Through their music they converse,
chant, laugh, cry and pray with highly expressive attitudes. In the taqseems
they infuse their souls into their work. Raspy woodwinds describe whimsical
moods and perpetual mysteries. Throughout "Belly Dance with Adam and Fahtiem"
careful attention is paid to showcase a broad spectrum of musical instruments.
It was designed expressly for dancing and listeners just can't sit still.
